Meaning:
- In Māori tradition, the seasonal cycle is a celestial love story. Tamanuiterā, the sun god, divides his time between two sisters: Hineraumati, the summer maiden, and Hinetakurua, the winter maiden. As the sun shifts across the sky throughout the year, he leaves one wife to reside with the other. During her half of the year, Hinetakurua makes her home in the ocean, where she watches over and secures the abundance of the sea's harvest.
